Ding. Band rivals Eating the Invaders and Chapel Hill’s Alcazar Hotel will engage in what should turn into a battle royale.
“Greensboro bands just blow. Everyone knows it,” says Alcazar’s vocalist Will Dawson. “I mean, I didn’t even know the city had musicians until the past 3 weeks.”
Matty Sheets listened, patiently, to the taped telephone conversation while I interviewed him about the upcoming show at the Flat Iron.
“Man, he’s so full of it. Just because he played with the Squirrel Nut Zippers for 3 months or something he thinks he’s a big shot.” He fumbled through his pockets for the butt of an old cigarette and then rummaged through his drawers distractedly mumbling about losing his guitar picks. I asked him why Eating the Invaders agreed to play with Alcazar Hotel in the first place.
“To prove a point.”
“What’s the point?” I asked.
“That once and for all, Greensboro is way cooler than Chapel Hill.”
Well, personally I think both cities have something to offer, but the show, this Saturday May 2nd at the Flat Iron (221 summit avenue) is sure to make for an interesting evening. I’ll be there, for day 3 of another great weekend for music in Greensboro, NC.

we need to start calling it New Greensboro. Chapel Hill is cool, too, I’m just proud of what New Greensboro has become in the past ten years, shit, five years.
