Holy Playoffs

So unless you’ve been under a rock here lately you’re aware that the NBA and NHL playoffs are in full swing.  I personally am not a huge fan of either, but a fan nonetheless.

I will always pull for the home state Carolina Hurricanes, too bad the Charlotte Bobcats stink.  The NHL has had some intense games as of late.  3 of the 4 semifinal series were all decided in game 7.  The Canes vs. Bruins game 7 went into OT. I couldn’t take my eyes off the damn television.  With less than 90 seconds left in OT,  I was just about to go grab a fresh beer and a quick smoke, glad I didn’t.  Scott Walker grabbed a rebound off a blocked shot and flipped it right over Thomas’s shoulder.  Goal.  Game over.  Series over.  In Boston even.  I think I heard a simultaneous roar over the whole state of N.C, or most of it anyway.  Or, maybe it was just my friend Pete.

Walker delivered the knock-out punch, again.  Back in game 5, down 4-0 with little time left Walker delivered his first knock-out punch, with his fist.  Ouch.  Possibly breaking the orbital bone (basically his eye socket) of Bruins player Aaron Ward.  Good thing he was just fined and not suspended for a few games.  Walker might not have been there to score the winning goal.  That’s all I’m saying.  C’mon Canes.

The NHL conference finals are all set, in the east its Pittsburgh vs. Carolina, and in the west its Detroit vs. Chicago.  Detroit and Chicago start things off on Sunday afternoon in the windy city.  Pittsburgh and Carolina will play on Monday night in the steel city.

Let me just say for starters, the NBA’s MVP, Lebron James is the new Michael Jordan.  Not to take anything away from Kobe, but Lebron has the style and character that Kobe doesn’t.  Now, all he needs to do it get some rings for his fingers.  And he is well on his way. The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t lost a playoff game yet.  I definitely would like to see Cleveland win it all.  Joe Smith, a former Maryland Terrapin also plays for Cleveland.  Gives me one more reason to pull for Cleveland.  Just for the record.  I’m a huge Terrapin fan, not that anyone cares.

Cleveland will play the winner of Boston vs. Orlando.  Game 7 is on Sunday.  Boston can’t win without Kevin Garnett.  Orlando Magic center, Dwight Howard had a enormous game 6 to force a game 7.  Yeah, Howard is bad man.  Superman, if you will.  And then there’s the Lakers and Kobe, I could do without Kobe and the pretentious Lakers.  But that’s just my opinion.  Houston and LA play Sunday as well, for the chance to play the Denver Nuggets.

The Dallas Mavericks vs. Denver Nuggets series should have been played on ice or down on the blacktop court with chain nets.  Lots of technical fouls, pushing and shoving, cursing, bad mouthing of family members.  It was a joke. Denver Nugget Kenyon Martin is a bum and so is Dallas owner Mark Cuban.  What a sideshow.  Not much respect from me for either of them, or either team.  Makes for good television I guess.  That’s all I’m saying.  C’mon Cavs.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day. This trio from Boston came into our kitchen with homegrown produce and organic chocolate and a willingness to help begin the restoration of our ad-hoc badminton court in the backyard. They’ve opened for the Avett Brothers and their album, “The Carpenter Bird” was listed by the Boston Globe as [...]

Back in the days, Joshua and I used to do what we called “work” at a pizza joint. Work usually consisted of running a pizza in the morning for breakfast, collecting cigarette boxes and 20 oz bottles of soda in our cars and when it was really slow Josh would bust out his Saxophone [...]

Here’s something I’ve been looking forward to for months. Thanks in large part to our neighbor Heather and the kind staff of the Weatherspoon Art Museum we gained access to the inner workings of the art installation process and were able to interview Leo in our kitchen.
This was a collaborative effort as part of our [...]

Two songs just aren’t enough.  They came to our kitchen, braved the cold and the drizzle in the back yard and ate Indian food with us before returning to Brooklyn, NY.  Fear not, they’ll be returning to Greensboro on March 13th as part of our Monkeywhale presents series …
Many thanks to Jocelyn, Emily and Jeremy [...]

For the past 2 years monkeywhale and our kind neighbors have thrown a Halloween party.  Nothing fancy.  A couple of gazebos, a keg, strings of lights across the lawn and a few lanterns.  We also project films on the barn that have fallen into the public domain … like, Nosferatu for instance. Creepy and a [...]

Harvey’s Kitchen: Michael Ford Jr., and The Apache Relay

An Apache Relay is the pre-colonial version of a courier system.  Chiefs would compete against each other to see who could have a message delivered in the shortest amount of time.  A Relay of 8 scouts could hand a message over a quarter of a mile in 3 minutes.  Apparently.   Just imagine if they [...]
