Monday Rehabilitation

The words are coming slow today, must be the cold weather and the long weekend of music and camping that I experienced. Well, if sleeping in my van down by the river is considered camping. Sure, why not. Camping.  So as you can imagine I didn’t get a chance to watch much football or baseball this weekend. Thank you internet for catching me up. I love you. Surely looks as if I missed a good weekend of football.  No.1 Florida squeaked out a win on a last second field goal to beat Arkansas and stay undefeated.  No.2 Alabama’s passing game struggled against No.22 South Carolina, but with the help of sophomore running back, Mark Ingram and his 246 yard performance and 1 TD, they came out on top.  Alabama moved into the No.1 spot in the AP poll but remained in 2nd in the BCS poll.  Boo.  BCS go away and take your computer rated scoring system with you.  That will be all.  I’m just saying.  I will have to admit, I like Bama, not to be jumping on the bandwagon or anything but my friend Heather’s enthusiasm for Bama football is contagious and my team Maryland couldn’t beat their way out of a wet paper bag.  That quote was for you Pepaw, one of your favorites.  Heather, you like that don’t you?  Thought so.  Anyway, we had some upsets this weekend as No.19 Georgia Tech beat No.4 Virgina Tech keeping their ACC championship hopes alive and knocking VT way down in the polls.  Unranked Purdue upset No.7 Ohio State. Former Purdue QB and current New Orleans QB Drew Brees sent Purdue QB Joey Elliot a text message that said: Hey, go out there and shock the world, have fun.  I’ll be watching.  That’s pretty damn cool.  Elliot and Purdue definitely shocked Ohio State, not so sure about the world though.  No.15 Nebraska was also upset by a unranked Texas Tech.  Things are starting to shape up in college football.  Now, if we could have a playoff championship bracket like the way college basketball does instead of this BCS BS, I’d be more likely to get excited about the end of season and the bowl games that lie ahead.  But money talks, loud.  Doesn’t talk to me though, damn it.  I’m just saying.

It’s official, my team the Washington Redskins suck, real bad.  Just for the record I hope we lose the remainder of our games this season, at least then we could get a good draft pick next year, unless we’ve given them all away for big name players that are all washed up.  I’ll look into that.  Rich boy owner Daniel Synder kills me, (bleep, bleep, bleep).  That will be all.  Holy touchdown Batman. Tom Brady, the Patriots QB threw 5 tds in the 2nd quarter alone.  Wow.  The Patriots went on to embarrass the Tennessee Titans.  59-0.  Ouch.  Another game that stands out for me is New Orleans Saints vs. the N.Y football Giants.  Both teams were undefeated going into yesterdays game.  Drew Brees put on another clinic, throwing for 4 tds. The man is on a mission.  Brees has been making plays all season and is by far the ultimate leader of his team.  Work it out Brees.  I’m just guessing here, but the city of New Orleans could probably use something to cheer for.  I’m just saying.  Mark Sanchez, what happen?  3-0 start for you and the N.Y Jets only to lose the next 3.  I was excited for you guys, you had me believing.  Yesterday you played like a rookie, throwing 5 interceptions, and 1 in overtime.  Neither the N.Y Jets or the Buffalo Bills looked like they wanted to win this game.  Buffalo won on field goal in the closing minutes of OT. I mean what?  The Bills, really. I’m just saying.  Monday nights game features the 5-0 Denver Broncos vs. the 2-2 San Diego Chargers.  Should be a good one. I think I’ll just watch this game with the t.v on mute and listen to some music.  Jon Gruden please be quiet and let Jaws talk.  Shhhhhhhh!  I’m just saying.

Yo check it, you guys see how my Redskin shirt is in a basket of dirty laundry?  That’s exactly how it will stay until they win a game.  I’m still Redskins all day, but geez.  That shirt could stay dirty for awhile.  I’m just saying.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day. This trio from Boston came into our kitchen with homegrown produce and organic chocolate and a willingness to help begin the restoration of our ad-hoc badminton court in the backyard. They’ve opened for the Avett Brothers and their album, “The Carpenter Bird” was listed by the Boston Globe as [...]

Harvey’s Kitchen: Joshua West

Back in the days, Joshua and I used to do what we called “work” at a pizza joint. Work usually consisted of running a pizza in the morning for breakfast, collecting cigarette boxes and 20 oz bottles of soda in our cars and when it was really slow Josh would bust out his Saxophone [...]

Existed: Leonardo Drew

Here’s something I’ve been looking forward to for months. Thanks in large part to our neighbor Heather and the kind staff of the Weatherspoon Art Museum we gained access to the inner workings of the art installation process and were able to interview Leo in our kitchen.
This was a collaborative effort as part of our [...]

Harvey’s Kitchen: Pearl and the Beard, Lost in Singapore

Two songs just aren’t enough.  They came to our kitchen, braved the cold and the drizzle in the back yard and ate Indian food with us before returning to Brooklyn, NY.  Fear not, they’ll be returning to Greensboro on March 13th as part of our Monkeywhale presents series …
Many thanks to Jocelyn, Emily and Jeremy [...]

For the past 2 years monkeywhale and our kind neighbors have thrown a Halloween party.  Nothing fancy.  A couple of gazebos, a keg, strings of lights across the lawn and a few lanterns.  We also project films on the barn that have fallen into the public domain … like, Nosferatu for instance. Creepy and a [...]

Harvey’s Kitchen: Michael Ford Jr., and The Apache Relay

An Apache Relay is the pre-colonial version of a courier system.  Chiefs would compete against each other to see who could have a message delivered in the shortest amount of time.  A Relay of 8 scouts could hand a message over a quarter of a mile in 3 minutes.  Apparently.   Just imagine if they [...]
