Amelia’s Mechanics at the Deep River Music Festival

8 Comments 26 Oct, 2009

It was day one of the Deep River Music Festival.  Molly McGinn, Molly Miller, and Kasey Horton took to the stage as Amelia’s Mechanics.  Molly McGinn may be the funniest person I have ever met.

Amelia’s Mechanics was the first group of the two day music festival held in Franklinville, North Carolina.  Their outstanding original set was seen and heard only by the small audience lucky enough to have been there at the beginning of the festival.  We were lucky indeed.

The set was awesome.  The viola sounded like a viola.  Greensboro’s own Amelia’s Mechanics were loved by all.  They told stories and jokes while the others tuned their instruments.  Molly McGinn told a joke, and afterward said that her mother would kill her if she ever heard her tell that particular joke.  It was hilarious.  But I can’t repeat it.  I remember it, but my mother would kill me.

We had a great time.  I took a lot of pictures.  Obviously.

There were excellent performances on Saturday, too.  Coming soon : part three of the Deep River Music Festival featuring Greensboro’s Milltown, the Slaw River Ramblers (I’ll explain later), and a mandolin player from Atlanta who wore bunny ears and stayed up until the sun came up, with me and a few others.

  1. when the fly goes down the p—- gets wet… i imagine.

  2. Thanks Matty and all you fine folk at Monkeywhale! Having been one of the fortunate few to have attended that fine Friday nite line-up at The Deep River Music Festival, I’m left wondering why it seemed to be one of the best kept secrets around. Amelia’s Mechanics….awesome set from an awesome group! Can’t help but love those ladies! Seems like I recall some other fine performers taking the stage that evening as well, with both Eating The Invaders and Holy Ghost Tent Revival turning out special performances of their own. You just had to love the atmosphere with all those musicians either playing on stage or around the campfires! Love those photos and can’t wait for “Part 3″.

  3. imagine if my dog, lucy, was in the punchline. b—-, huh?

  4. I love these. thank you matty!

  5. There’s some Awesomeness here!

[...] bluegrass, but with a hint of the new grass feel, their set was polished.
