Facebook Virus! Beware of the Dreaded Koobface!

0 Comments 05 Dec, 2008

For those of you Facebook addicts (and I know there are a lot of you out there- even right here in our Monkeywhale Studio) be very, very careful what you click on in your inbox!  Hey now. If you haven’t heard already we thought we should warn everyone that there is a virus going around called “Koobface”.  It will send emails to a user’s friends and ask them to check out a new video on a site with some subject line like “Look you were filmed all naked” or “You look so amazing funny on our new video”.   Sounds tempting yeah?  No.

Apparently the sight looks like YouTube and will ask you to download a Flash plug-in to watch the video.  Then (imagine “Jaws” theme song here) it strikes.  Some people have reported that it takes over your Browser and redirects Google search links to other pages while others are warning that it steals your personal info.  Whatever happens seems like it’s safe to say you don’t want it.

This virus is not new; apparently it’s been around since August but seems to have resurfaced.  Facebook is, of course, working hard to fix it and they have instructions for you to follow that will put your minds at ease.

So in about two minutes when you get back on your Facebook page to let the world know you’re about to make soup or you need to take a nap or you really should be studying or you’re wondering why you haven’t gotten anything done today, pay attention to your inbox.  But I bet you already do.
