What We Did Before Facebook

0 Comments 04 Feb, 2009

Oh those darn 80′s.  They were good to us, no?   Silly music, big hair, potato chips…  Or maybe that was just where I lived?  For sure, our pastimes were different.  No endless text messaging, no craigslist cruising, no witty updating of statuses on facebook, no gmail chats with 3 people at once, no googling old boyfriends…

No, no in the early 80′s we had cool stuff like Rubik’s Cube.  Rubik’s still rocks, apparently, because there are numerous sites dedicated to all things Rubik’s which can provide you with more than you ever needed to know about the Cube.  Wanna watch a video of the youngest “Cuber” and feel really dumb?  Wanna see a tutorial on solving the thing?  Facts, trivia, diagrams…you name it, it’s out there.  Apparently there’s math involved in solving the Cube.  I never really thought about that, just liked the colors and the creaking noises.  Maybe that’s why I never got much farther than doing two sides.

Well, of course it wouldn’t do to leave a good thing unchanged.  Someone’s gotta keep cashing in on this thing so get ready for the Rubik’s 360.  It’s coming out this week and you may not be ready for it.  It’s round and shiny and unfortunately doesn’t feature stickers that could, in the event of an emergency, be peeled off and moved around.  (Although often that makes siblings suspicious).  Nonetheless, it looks pretty cool and if the fine people at Rubik’s would like to send any of the people here at Monkeywhale a freebie we would be more than happy to blog about it’s beauties.  Perhaps we could even make a short video.
