Our Horse Jethro gallops into the Green Bean.

1 Comments 04 Apr, 2009

Greensboro’s own Our Horse Jethro opened for Hope for a Golden Summer at the Green Bean Saturday.  It was very crowded.

So crowded in fact, that I had to fight just to get a couple shots of the band.  By the band, I mean Our Horse Jethro.  I tried to get some shots of Hope for a Golden Summer.  Due to the crowd, however, the best photograph I got of them was at the after party.

I am not really a photographer.   I am, at best, somewhat of an artist who has a digital camera and really loves taking pictures and looking at pictures.  I am a big fan of Ashley Ross’ photography, the bass player from Our Horse Jethro.  I bring this up not only to plug Ashley (Rooooos), but to tell this little story:

There was a guy taking pictures next to me.  I said something like, “nice camera.”  He shrugged it off, and upon learning that I was just getting into this whole photography thing, told me what I needed to do.  Don’t you just love it when people tell you what you need to do?  He told me to hang out with any friends I have who play in bands and take pictures of them.  Heavy.  I continued to do just that.  A few minutes later I couldn’t get a picture in focus.  I had my camera on the hand rail for stability and someone was banging their foot against the ground so hard it was shaking everything.  I looked around to find it was the above mentioned guy.

Anyway, the show was my favorite from Our Horse Jethro to date.  They write great songs and execute them deftly.  Tight rhythm section, beautiful vocals, and they even have an auto harp.  And, yes, they are very nice people who I am proud to call my friends.

Hope for a Golden Summer were, by far, excellent as well.  If only there were less folks at the show, or if the crowd was a bit more quiet, I would have more to say.  They sounded sweet, acoustic, and melodic.  I guess a band could have bigger problems than having too many members in the audience.

Another great show from the Green Bean, one of the best (and the few) places to see original live music in Greensboro.  Represent.

As you can see, it was crowded.  I’ll try harder next time.  That’s what she said.  Here is Hope for a Golden Summer.
