Monkeywhale goes International

1 Comments 18 Nov, 2008

We began this little experiment in a blissful slovenly manner.  We posted a few videos, made ourselves chuckle, shared them with about 5 friends who also chuckled.  Weeks would fly by where the only things we did were visit gallery exhibits of Elliot Erwitt, photographic retrospective portraits of Georgia O’Keefe by Steiglitz and watch as many live music shows as we possibly could.  Meanwhile nothing happened on the website.  It languished unhappily in the Cloud along with several failed cooking shows and the IT department of Lehman Brothers.

We now have viewers in 7 countries including a few regulars from Chile.  Apparently there was a monkeywhale sighting near the hometown of Nobel Prize winning poet, Gabriela Mistral who has been most often misquoted as saying, ““We are guilty of many errors and many faults, but our worst crime is abandoning the children, neglecting the monkeywhale.” (Su Nombre es Hoy/His Name is Today) Thank you Chile.

A couple of misfits from Jordan have been watching Eating the Invaders and Citified for the past few hours. Wish they’d leave a comment. Both of those bands wanted to remind you to use the share tab by the side of their video and digg, buzz, facebook and myspace the hell out them. I wouldn’t mind it either. I’ve been keeping up with Sean Coon’s slow burnout and I have to tell you, we haven’t been doing this quite as long as him and I can almost empathize. Last week we shot 6 days out of 7. Best 6 day week of the year.

Really looking forward to interviewing Sean tomorrow. I think there might be a few surprises, or none.

Oh, back to the countries … One clumsy soul from Portugal (another hot spot for Monkeywhale sightings) accidentally clicked on our site and realized it wasn’t a porn site. Sorry.

Nós em monkeywhale enviamo-lhe nossos votos de felicidade e espera que retornar logo uma vez você está num estado mais descontraído.

respect.

No words yet for the Canadians. Simply, if you’d like to donate a case of your beer to our cause we’ll have more to say.

Enough of this rambling. I’ll leave with a simple poem in a difficult form by a troubled man at a time of personal torment.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Dylan Thomas.

Hope you read that Sean.

A number of people watch regularly from the UK from IP addresses suspiciously close to my hometown of Derby and somewhere in Norfolk also the current home of my sister, but I’ll attribute those hits to the recent announcement that the Japanese Whaling Fleet flagship was sunk by an infamously aggressive monkeywhale in the Arctic sea witnessed by a BBC camera crew.

Keep watching. Keep Reading. More coming soon.
