Saturday Stuff You Don't Want to Miss

1 Comments 09 May, 2009

There’s so much going on in Greensboro today you might not even know where to start.  Just take a look at the ArtBeat schedule for starters.  Music, theatre, art, history…it’s all happening today.  With this in mind, we here at Monkeywhale thought we’d highlight 3 things happening today (all within several blocks of each other) that we certainly don’t want to miss.

The Carolina Blues Festival starts at 2pm at Festival Park next to Cafe Europa and the Cultural Arts Center on Davie St.  Beautiful weather, good food, cold beverages and fantastic music all afternoon and evening.  How can you go wrong?  Some of the featured performers include Cyril Neville of The Neville Brothers, Diunna Greenleaf with Steady Rolling Bob Margolin, The Nighthawks, Adrian Duke, Bump and Logie straight outta Greensboro.  We were lucky enough to attend this event last year and it was amazing.  See how much fun people were having?

Around 8pm take a stroll down Elm St. to Elsewhere and grab a glow in the dark yo yo from the kind folks there.  A procession will slowly make their way down Elm Street to City Center Park at which point some serious yo-ing will take place.  Park lights will be turned off and hopefully a beautiful sight will emerge.  Sure to be fun and wacky and generally silly.  Look here if you’d like to see some serious yo yo action to get you inspired.

When 9pm rolls around you should most definitely begin working your way down to the Flat Iron.   Greensboro awesomeness Citified will be having their cd release party.   Josh Neas and Pinche Gringo will be starting things off for a night of local music that will make you proud of our fair city.

And that’s just a sampling. Get out there people.  Log off of Facebook and leave your house.  It will be well worth it.
