Bruce Piephoff came to our kitchen in October 2008 with his guitar, a book of poetry, lots of wonderful stories, and a whole lot of charm. Harvey and Bruce had been friends for years and we were excited to set up a seamless backdrop, turn on our new lights and attempt to capture some of Bruce’s magic on camera. Something about that morning felt very special and I won’t deny that I was very excited to hear such lovely music being played live in our apartment. Little did Bruce know (or us) that what started that morning over some coffee and a lot of laughs would become an online music series that somehow brought musicians from all over the city, state, and ultimately country to play in our kitchen. So, when Bruce finished his 21st (!) album “Still Looking Up at the Stars” late last year we were thrilled to do it again, this time in a new location and with a few more tricks up our sleeve. If you haven’t heard this album we highly recommend you get your hands on it. It was produced by the also very talented Scott Sawyer who accompanied Bruce in our hallway for this session. Take a look, take a listen, and go out and hear these guys play live. Beautiful stuff.
More pictures from this session can be seen on our flickr.

Great set of photos. I’ve seen both men perform in recent years and enjoy their music. Scott’s style is more my taste and when I saw him open for Jeff Sipe Trio last spring I was blown away.

Your photos capture what I experienced in the studio of WUAG 103.1 FM when I recently had the privilege of chatting with both Bruce Piephoff and Scott Sawyer on my radio show, Carolina Music Storm. What an amazing collaboration these two have put together with the CD “Still Looking Up at the Stars.” Scott Sawyer has brought a new dimension to Bruce Piephoff’s music and the result is delightful to the ears. I enjoyed their live performances immensely.
