Harvey's Kitchen: Bart Trotman

11 Comments 18 Mar, 2009

Resident of Greensboro.  Found sound artist.  Inspired by artists such as Negativland and late seventies post-punk.   Bart Trotman plays with instruments salvaged from thrift stores.  Hidden beneath his personable demeanor is a sense of purpose about our cultural identity, our environment.  This particular art movement has parallels in the readymade of Marcel Duchamp’s Bottle rack or William Eggleston’s candid banal exposures of Americana.  We are disposable and toxic and yet beautiful.

Shooting Bart began as a struggle of concepts.  He would offer, “this is interesting,” or “that angle isn’t,” but we learned to work together.  Mostly I nodded and kept shooting.

Bart also plays in the band Invisible who we hope to document in this kitchen in some fashion some time soon.
