Harvey's Kitchen — Josh Neas

0 Comments 12 Dec, 2008

Josh has been floating around the blogosphere and college airwaves for some time.  His own blog is a veritable treasure trove of insights, inspiration and musicians you may have heard of or were glad that he introduced you to.  He also is one of three writers for the highly influential music blog Aquarium Drunkard.

WQFS Greensboro recently obtained funding to begin webcasting their shows and no doubt, J’s Indie/Rock Mayhem will become increasingly more influential.

Over the past year Josh has been a vocal supporter of thedotmatrixproject, interviewing Sean Coon the administrative mind behind the experiment, along with the local bands who’ve been recorded at the FREE.LIVE.MUSIC events.

I had a great deal of trouble putting this interview together.  Josh isn’t short on insight and I did a bit of soul searching about what this kitchen series was all about.  It could’ve taken a hundred different directions.  I made this nifty video composite of him sitting in several chairs buzzing in and out, but it was a distraction from the point.

Maybe I’ll post that somewhere else.

I’ve been catching grief from my fellow conspirators that I’m spending too much time on this music thing and not enough time on saving the monkeywhale.  Well, while the monkeywhales make their annual migration from the Aleutian Islands to the southern tip of Greenland they’re singing their annual song.  Sometimes melancholy.  Sometimes hopeful.  Sometimes fading into despair.

Save the monkeywhale.  Go to a live music event.

Incidentally, Giant Invisible Cyclops is promoting a show on December 29th at Studio B behind the Broach Theatre on South Elm Street in Greensboro.  The lineup is, Molly McGinn, Paleface, and Holy Ghost Tent Revival.  Damned if we’re not going to be there.

Coming soon:  Molly McGinn Interview, The longest running open mic in the world, Pete Schroth and his Giant Invisible Cyclops.
