Interview with Sean Coon of the dotmatrixproject

Sean Coon, the creative and administrative force behind the dotmatrixproject checks in with us on the progress of his collaborative experiment. The pressures of an extremely heavy workload combined with personal struggles and attempts to balance the two are common themes in this industry.

Despite the fact that there are many succesful examples of collaborative web-based companies out there, the pace at which web-based technologies change makes everything a moving target.

We may be at the beginning of a new era. The Rise of Regionalism. The rise of the middle class artist empowered to distribute and sell their own material without having to be a star or gain the attention of some disconnected music exec who churns out twinkie songs for a monopolized network of payola radio and tv stations.

Harvey K. Robinson is the cinematographer, editor, and director at Monkeywhale Productions. Originally from Derby, England he now resides in Greensboro, NC where he began a web series documenting musicians and artists from all over the country. Harvey’s commercial work has garnered 2 silver Addy awards in the past 2 years. With a background in Directing at NC School of the Arts and many years spent as a professional actor, Harvey brings a multi-disciplinary approach to each new creative endeavor whether it be a short film, music video, documentary, or commercial.
